EMPERIOD
Emperiod is a social-impact business that creates reusable menstruation pads in order to alleviate period poverty within the Netherlands. Our mission is three-fold, to reduce period poverty, to make menstruation as sustainable as possible and to ensure that we educate our community. The vision and impact of Emperiod is aligned with the #Envision2030 Sustainable Development Goals. Our circular economy pads are 100% sustainable, with a minimal environmental impact and are derived from second-hand and dead-stock materials that would otherwise end up in landfills. With the purchase of our pads, we will donate a percentage of the profits towards providing menstruation products to organizations based in the Netherlands. These products are then distributed to those who are impacted by period poverty. Another important element of Emperiod is our Emperiod4all education program. Through interviews, awareness weeks and campaigns for free products in all bathrooms, we aim to break the taboos surrounding menstruation. At Emperiod, our primary target beneficiaries are those who menstruate and suffer from period poverty. They will directly benefit from the buy 1 donate 1 initiative. Furthermore, in the future, we aim to utilize social impact employment, employing those who are outside of the labor market such as asylum seekers and refugees.
Our goals for the year of 2023/2024 are mainly focused on pad production. Our short-term goals are to continue to test our product and refine our prototype to be market-ready. Initially, we aim to sell our products within the UCU community and then expand to selling our pads to local businesses in Utrecht. We have invested in a new sewing machine for Emperiod which will allow us to begin producing our pads and we aim to also continue to utilize our connection with the Green-up department store in Utrecht to hold more sewing workshops and lessons. By the next national exposition, we aim to have a net profit margin of at least 10%. In order to do this, we aim to start our production on a larger scale through collaborative sewing workshops. We will aim to be holding these by January. In addition to this, our period poverty and education programme will continue through advocating for the de- stigmatisation of menstruation.
